So I promised Founders Favorites, but I didn't have a chance to get to them before the 4th. Since I consider the moth of July one long Independence Day celebration however, I will post them now. My dear, sweet grandma has been one of my main cooking inspirations. I know I have mentioned her before, but she has always been a natural in the kitchen. When she had her stroke she slowed down quite a bit. She still cooks, but she keeps things pretty simple. The woman has dozens of cookbooks though. Every time I go over there she begs me to take some. I have to say I'd like to take them all. I doubt many of my cousins would know the difference or even care, but I don't know where I would put them all. I did, however, take one last year.
I don't know how many of you remember the Frugal Gourmet. He had his own TV show once upon a time. He also had a series of cookbooks. I think my grandma had all of them. One in particular caught my eye though, The Frugal Gourmet Cooks American. What was most striking about this book was that he had acquired recipes from some of the Founders. The historian in me simply couldn't pass it up and I brought it home. It's not very often that you get to combine two of your passions, but this was my chance. I therefore hope that you enjoy the next few recipes as much as I do. Happy Cooking!
